Authorities have released the names of some of those who died in the Batang Kali disaster, in which 23 people have been confirmed dead.
The National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) named six of the dead, who were identified by relatives or fingerprints. They are Lim Wei Xin, Hong Mei Jing, Nurul Azmani, Lai Lee Yin, Lai Lee Koo and a nine-year-old boy, Tong Kai.
Five others, aged 12 to 44, are being treated at hospitals in Kuala Kubu Bharu, Selayang and Kuala Lumpur. The other three were released yesterday.
Those remaining in prison are Yam Lee Yen, 41, Tan Ei An, 43, Choo Wai Lun, 34, Ling Zi Suan, 19, and Loh Teng Shui, 44. A landslide early yesterday morning hit three farms near the Batang Kali-Genting Highlands road.
According to the park operator’s visitor registration records, there were 94 campers at the site when the collapse occurred and 61 people were rescued. Search and rescue operations are ongoing, while ten more injured people are still missing.
