Covid-19 cases down 17.3% to 2,088 last week

The number of new Covid-19 cases fell 17.3% last week to 2,088 from 2,525 recorded the previous week, said Director of Health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

In his update for the week ending January 21, Noor Hisham said that the number of Covid-19 patients admitted to Tier 1-5 public hospitals fell by 28.6% per 100,000 compared to the previous week. He added that the total number of beds for non-essential beds and medical care beds decreased by 2%.

Cases fell during the week by 7.9% to 10,042 from 10,901 active cases last week. “Recovery fell 27.6% from 3,288 to 2,379 cases,” said Noor Hisham.

“The death toll rose to 24, compared to 34 last week, bringing the death toll to 36,932.”

He said that 5,034,521 Covid-19 cases have been recorded in the country since January 2020.
