Selangor donates RM1mil to flood-stricken Kelantan, Terengganu

The Selangor state government will provide about RM1 million in financial aid to Kelantan and Terengganu due to the ongoing floods in the East Coast state.

Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari said the two states will receive RM500,000 each, adding that he is also ready to deliver humanitarian aid. “Selangor expresses its sympathy to the people of Kelantan and Terengganu, who were affected by the floods,” he said in a statement.

Amirudin added that Selangor will cancel its state New Year celebrations out of respect for the victims of the Batang Kali floods and landslides. The number of people affected by the floods in Terengganu has increased significantly this morning to 37,792, from 26,494 last night. The victims are in 310 rescue centers in eight regions. In Kelantan, the number of evacuees rose to 17,326 this morning from 14,359 last night. There are 106 rescue agencies operating there. Meanwhile, the death toll in Batang Kali remains at 24 as of this morning while nine people are still missing.

Out of the 94 people who were in Fada Organic Farm when the landslide happened last Friday morning, 61 people were rescued alive as a result of the search and rescue operation carried out by the authorities.
